Chrome 6.0.472.62 and Acid3 test
If I run the Acid3 test in my latest version of Google Chrome 6.0.472.62, something weird happens. The test shows 100/100 compliency, but the image doesn’t look like it is supposed to. Instead of the colorful squares I see only a set of black lines over the text that says 100/100. Take a look at the first screen shot and bellow it on the reference rendering (how it was supposed to look).
Even weirder is that it doesn’t happen every time. If I open a new Chrome window (opening new tab is not enough) the the rendering is ok. If I refresh the page (F5, CTRL-F5) or if I open it in a new tab then the result is broken.
I think this is a bug in Chrome, but not in the CSS part of it, but in the rendering, display or canvas part. I will try it on other versions of Chrome and try to reproduce it.

Mozilla introduced Kraken javascript benchmark speed test
I have recently written several articles on the speed increases of preview beta versions of Firefox 4 browser. I have always used the Sunspider test to measure the performance. I didn’t look at the actual results but on the difference between versions and browsers – and have run the test on the same computer.
Now Mozilla has released its own benchmark tool. They call it Kraken benchmark and it was supposed to measure the things that users do and use the most in a browser.
Of course, I have run the test on my system as well. I ran it on Firefox 3.6.10, Firefox 4..0b7pre and Chrome 6.0.472.62. The results were, as expected in favour of the new Firefox 4 browser. The results differ a lot. The worst was, as expected, FF3.6 with a result of 30369.5ms, then came Chrome with 20505.2ms and the best result had FF4b7pre with 10370.5ms.
I hope that the results are comparable and that they mean that the new Firefox4beta7pre is really that much faster. I also hope that this Kraken test is a fair test and not in favour of Mozilla.
Comparing these results I still see the Sunspider results in front of me, where the Chrome browser is (still?) an absolute winner.

My list of frequently used and favorite services on Android
In addition to the list of my favorite Android programs I have compiled a list of my favorite services I use on my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. I have discovered that even on the phone I use browser a lot and inside it web services. I have discovered that I might use web services more than I use standalone applications that run on the phone.
Here is the list of services I use and like the most:
- Google search for searching the web
- Google Reader for reading RSS feeds and some blogs I’m subscribed to
- Gmail for accessing my web mail
- Delo.si website for reading news
- 16bugs.com for keeping track of tasks
- My provider’s service to monitor my call usage and other stats
I would love to see more services that I could use. The problem is not that they wouldn’t exist, the problem is that the browser is too slow to use those services comfortably. I use the default Android browser that has many useful features, but speed is not one of them.
